This paper aims to present some thoughts (from a sociological perspective centered on the body and emotions) of the experiencing of the body and emotions of young popular sectors affected by forms of police repression and urban segregation in the Villa Maria city (province Córdoba, Argentina). The first part describes the main features of the security/insecurity issue in our country, with particular focus on the Cordoba province and the Villa Maria city. Subsequently we summarize notions of «body-skin», «body-image» and «body-movement», explaining their productivity to understand (through the reading of data collected in interviews with grassroots young victims of police repression) the body marks that are linked with the possibility of circulating in certain spaces, social structures and state politics of security/repression. The data are presented in a cut that allows us to understand how certain forms of political repression and judicial practices affect the biographies of young people and their relationship with (increasingly hostile) environments in which they live. Finally, it is argued that security policies intensify the distrust on the «Other of class» (especially the young- male-poor) in connection with one process where the construction of an image to another; stigma and repressive sensitivity, and the impossibilities of movement; are rooted in structural conditions and repressive practices that the young-male-poor live every day.Fil: Aimar, Lucas Alberto. Nodal variables for complete conforming finite elements of arbitrary polynomial order

AbstractNodal variables are given for a new family of complete conforming triangular finite elements of arbitrary polynomial order p for use in linear stress analysis. This family has two important properties: (1) hierarchic property, i.e. the elemental stiffness matrix corresponding to an approximation of order p is a submatrix of the elemental stiffness matrix corresponding to an approximation of order p + 1; (2) the family enforces exactly the degree of smoothness across interelement boundaries which is required by the problem (C0 continuity for plane elasticity, C1 continuity for plate bending) even at vertices. It is shown how to use precomputed arrays in an efficient manner in calculating elemental stiffness matrices. Results from a numerical example in plane stress analysis are presented. These results demonstrate the efficiency of a p-convergence procedure which uses the new family of finite elements

The Helicobacter pylori Heat-Shock Repressor HspR: Definition of Its Direct Regulon and Characterization of the Cooperative DNA-Binding Mechanism on Its Own Promoter

The ability of pathogens to perceive environmental conditions and modulate gene expression accordingly is a crucial feature for bacterial survival. In this respect, the heat-shock response, a universal cellular response, allows cells to adapt to hostile environmental conditions and to survive during stress. In the major human pathogen Helicobacter pylori the expression of chaperone-encoding operons is under control of two auto-regulated transcriptional repressors, HrcA and HspR, with the latter acting as the master regulator of the regulatory circuit. To further characterize the HspR regulon in H. pylori, we used global transcriptome analysis (RNA-sequencing) in combination with Chromatin Immunoprecipitation coupled with deep sequencing (ChIP-sequencing) of HspR genomic binding sites. Intriguingly, these analyses showed that HspR is involved in the regulation of different crucial cellular functions through a limited number of genomic binding sites. Moreover, we further characterized HspR-DNA interactions through hydroxyl-radical footprinting assays. This analysis in combination with a nucleotide sequence alignment of HspR binding sites, revealed a peculiar pattern of DNA protection and highlighted sequence conservation with the HAIR motif (an HspR-associated inverted repeat of Streptomyces spp.). Site-directed mutagenesis demonstrated that the HAIR motif is fundamental for HspR binding and that additional nucleotide determinants flanking the HAIR motif are required for complete binding of HspR to its operator sequence spanning over 70 bp of DNA. This finding is compatible with a model in which possibly a dimer of HspR recognizes the HAIR motif overlapping its promoter for binding and in turn cooperatively recruits two additional dimers on both sides of the HAIR motif

Complete gene expression profiling of Saccharopolyspora erythraea using GeneChip DNA microarrays

The Saccharopolyspora erythraea genome sequence, recently published, presents considerable divergence from those of streptomycetes in gene organization and function, confirming the remarkable potential of S. erythraea for producing many other secondary metabolites in addition to erythromycin. In order to investigate, at whole transcriptome level, how S. erythraea genes are modulated, a DNA microarray was specifically designed and constructed on the S. erythraea strain NRRL 2338 genome sequence, and the expression profiles of 6494 ORFs were monitored during growth in complex liquid medium

A forgotten life-threatening medical emergency: myxedema coma

Nowadays myxedema coma is a rare medical emergency but, sometimes, it still remains a fatal condition even if appropriate therapy is soon administered. Although physical presentation is very non-specific and diversified, physicians should pay attention when patients present with low body temperature and alteration of neurological status; the presence of precipitating events in past medical history can help in making a diagnosis. Here we discuss one such case: an 83-year-old female presented with abdominal pain since few days. Laboratory tests and abdomen computed tomography scan demonstrated alithiasic cholecystitis; she was properly treated but, during the Emergency Department stay she experienced a cardiac arrest. Physicians immediately started advance cardiovascular life support algorithm and she survived. Later on, she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit where doctors discovered she was affected by severe hypothyroidism. Straightway they started the right therapy but, unfortunately, the patient died in a few hours

Radiomics and artificial intelligence in prostate cancer: new tools for molecular hybrid imaging and theragnostics

In prostate cancer (PCa), the use of new radiopharmaceuticals has improved the accuracy of diagnosis and staging, refined surveillance strategies, and introduced specific and personalized radioreceptor therapies. Nuclear medicine, therefore, holds great promise for improving the quality of life of PCa patients, through managing and processing a vast amount of molecular imaging data and beyond, using a multi-omics approach and improving patients' risk-stratification for tailored medicine. Artificial intelligence (AI) and radiomics may allow clinicians to improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of using these "big data" in both the diagnostic and theragnostic field: from technical aspects (such as semi-automatization of tumor segmentation, image reconstruction, and interpretation) to clinical outcomes, improving a deeper understanding of the molecular environment of PCa, refining personalized treatment strategies, and increasing the ability to predict the outcome. This systematic review aims to describe the current literature on AI and radiomics applied to molecular imaging of prostate cancer
